7th March 2024

World Book Day 2024 and Read to Succeed

As we communicated in January, we will be celebrating World Book day on Thursday 7th March 2024. We have lots of engaging reading activities for the children to participate in during the school day and would like the children to either dress as a character from a book or to show- off their knowledge of powerful vocabulary by dressing up as a word. This could even be from a part of the curriculum that they have been taught this year.

Sponsored Read

To celebrate and encourage a lifelong love of reading at home and school, we will be running a sponsored read between Monday 19th February and culminating on Thursday, 7th March which is World Book Day. For further information, see sponsorship letter.

Read to Succeed!

Due date: Thursday 7th March

At TMA , we have been have been focusing on buying books which represent the children that we teach and our school community and the wider world we live in. As part of this, we have been looking at books as mirrors (when readers see their own lives reflected in the pages), books as windows ( when they allow readers a view of lives and stories that are different from their own) and books as sliding glass doors, when readers feel transported into the world of the story and can also they feel empathy for the characters.

For the Read to Succeed activity, we would like you to take a photo of a book that you have read and would like to recommend to the school as a book that is a mirror ( you can see parts of your own life reflected in the book), window (the book allows you to view lives and stories that are different to your own) or sliding door ( you are transported into the story and feel empathy for the characters). The photo can be of the front cover or, if you wish, a photo of the you and the book. Alongside the book, please let us know if the book is a mirror, window or sliding door and why. The activity will be assigned to you on Showbie, so all you need to do is to send the photo and comment to your teacher.

Due date: You can start sending this from Friday 16th February on Showbie to your class teacher. The closing date is on Thursday 7th March.

World Book Day Dressing- Up Costumes

Do you have World Book Day costumes that are too small for your children or have simply fallen, ‘out-of favour’? Then we would love for you to donate these to our school from tomorrow (16.2.24), by dropping them of at reception. We are hoping that we have enough donations to allow parents to come into school and choose a costume for their child to wear on World Book Day. Please keep your eyes peeled for further details.

Parents!

If you are happy to come into school and read a children’s book to a group of children on World Book Day, then please fill in the online form following the link below and we may be in touch with you. If you can read a children’s story in a different language or can share a children’s story that represents our wider school community, then we would love to hear from you too!
