Afternoon School Closures – UPDATES

School Closure Updates

Dear Parents and Carers,

I am writing to provide you with an update regarding the remainder of this week in light of
the continued extreme weather conditions.
Following monitoring of the forecasts and the expected high temperatures continuing over
the coming days, we have reviewed the impact on our school environment. As you will
appreciate, temperatures within classrooms rise significantly during the afternoon making it
increasingly challenging to maintain a safe and comfortable learning environment for our
pupils and staff.

As a result, we have taken the decision to implement an additional early closure for the end
of this week on Friday as well. This means that on Thursday 25th June and Friday 26th
June, the school day will finish early as follows:

• Years 5 and 6: 1.00pm
• Years 3 and 4: 1.15pm

If you have children in different year groups, the staff will organise it so that they will
make their way to the playground with the oldest child. This means that parents will only
need to do one collection from the playground. For example, if you have a Year 4 pupil and
a Year 6 pupil, the Year 4 child will be waiting on the playground with their Year 6 sibling at
1.00pm.

Please note, that we are unable to release children to other parents, adults or older
secondary school siblings without prior written consent. If you require a child to be
collected by someone other than yourself, please email reception@tmaschool.com with the
details and your consent. Without this written consent, we will not be able to release your
child without first contacting you.

Children will continue to have lunch as normal before leaving school, this includes hot
dinners. If your child is having a packed lunch, please send this in with your child. We were
aware that some parents did not do this today or book a hot dinner. Please ensure your
child has a packed lunch if required.

We understand that an earlier close may present challenges for some families. To support
those families who require additional assistance, we will continue to provide childcare
provision on site during the afternoon on both Thursday and Friday afternoon. As was the
case today, parents wishing to access this provision must complete the designated form in
advance so that we can ensure appropriate staffing and safeguarding arrangements. Please
use the following link to book the childcare provision if you haven’t already done so and if
you wish to use it on Friday afternoon. Please complete this by 9am on Thursday 25th
June.

Additionally, our Afterschool Club will continue to operate as normal until 6.00pm on both
Thursday 25th June and Friday 26th June for children who are staying in school and already
booked in via our usual procedures.
To try and make all children as comfortable as possible, we are happy to relax our uniform
expectations for the rest of this week. Children can continue to come into school wearing
their TMA PE kit or if they would feel more comfortable, any appropriate light clothing. All
clothing must be appropriate for school and therefore the following is not permitted: crop
tops, strappy tops, mini shorts, short dresses or open toed shoes.
We appreciate your understanding and continued support as we prioritise the health, safety
and wellbeing of all members of our school community during this period of unusually high
temperatures.
If you have any questions or require further support, please do not hesitate to contact the
school office.

Yours sincerely,
Lucy Eldridge
